Two to four nights
The short-break collection is built for people with more means than days: one base or two, a first afternoon kept free of plans, and one thing done well rather than a list of sights. Start by choosing the length of the first drive.

First visit
The site's pick for a first visit. The first night is about an hour and a half away at Kurseong, and the weekend gives you Darjeeling's railway, tea slopes and town without a long road day. Land between 11:00 and 14:00.

Only two nights
The one break built for two nights: Friday to Sunday at Glenburn, about three hours up from Bagdogra. Land before 14:00 and you keep the afternoon. From December to February the plucking has stopped, so come for walks, the river and the fire.

Seen Darjeeling already
Close enough that a midday landing still leaves an afternoon. Arrive on a Tuesday or Friday for the Wednesday or Saturday Haat Bazaar. In winter, Kalimpong runs about 9 to 18 °C (48 to 64 °F), the milder choice.

Kanchenjunga close up
Pelling looks at the massif across a single valley, which makes this the winter pick: December brings the clearest air. Accept the road. Gangtok and Pelling are far enough that the first and last days are mostly driving, so these breaks never run shorter than three nights.

Flying into Kathmandu
Both begin and end at Kathmandu's airport and suit the nonstop flights from Delhi. On Everest by Air, keep the second morning free in case cloud grounds the first flight.

Passports
Breaks in West Bengal need only your Indian visa. Gangtok and Pelling need Sikkim's permit for foreign and OCI guests, filed online through e-FRRO about 30 days ahead, and Tsomgo needs two or more foreign guests together.

One rule
Every break keeps to one or two bases, so you unpack once or twice and the last morning is not a race to the airport. Send your landing time first: on a short break, it decides more than anything else.
