From the United States
No long-haul flight lands at Bagdogra, the airport for Darjeeling, Sikkim and Kalimpong. Coming from the US you change planes once, in Delhi, Kolkata or Bangkok. Here is how each gateway works.

Through Delhi
Our planning guide names Delhi as the change that suits guests from North America. From there IndiGo, Air India Express, Akasa Air and SpiceJet fly nonstop to Bagdogra through the day, about two hours.

Through Kolkata
Emirates through Dubai, Qatar Airways through Doha, Etihad through Abu Dhabi and Singapore Airlines through Singapore all fly into Kolkata. From there Bagdogra is about 50 minutes on Air India, Air India Express or IndiGo.

Through Bangkok
In its October 2026 timetable, Drukair flies Bangkok to Bagdogra on Tuesdays and Saturdays, 07:30 to 09:10, and back on Mondays and Fridays. You clear Indian immigration at Bagdogra and can reach Darjeeling or Kalimpong by mid-afternoon.

Tickets
On a single through ticket your bags follow you. On separate tickets you clear immigration and customs in Delhi or Kolkata, collect your bags and check in again, so leave plenty of time. If the long flight lands at night or at dawn, sleep near the airport.

The last leg
Bagdogra sits near Siliguri at 126 m (410 ft); the hills begin about an hour up the road. Land by 11:30 if your first night is in Sikkim. Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong are all about 3 hours away, so an early-afternoon landing still works.

Next step
Times on these routes were checked on 20 September 2026 and change by season, so we reread them for your dates. Tell us your home airport and your first night, and we suggest the change and the landing time that fit.
