What is the best Darjeeling honeymoon itinerary?
A Himalayan Honeymoon suits most couples: a tea estate, a heritage room with a fire in Kalimpong and a spa in the forest above Gangtok, paced so the only early start is a dawn you may watch from bed. Choose Tea and Snow for a winter wedding, One Estate, Seven Days if you never want to pack, and A Bhutan Honeymoon if dzongs matter more than tea.
Choose first between moving and staying. Two of these journeys move three or four times, so each house brings its own mood: a verandah over the tea, a fire, a spa, a quiet valley. Two keep you almost entirely in one place, where the days are walks, treatments and long breakfasts and nothing needs packing until you leave. Tea and Snow sits between them, with two houses and long evenings by the fire.
Then choose by the month. December to February is cold, dry and clear, and it is the only season for Tea and Snow. October and November are warmer and just as clear, but they are festival weeks, and the houses with the best rooms have very few of them. April brings flowers and some haze. From mid June to mid September we would plan none of these.
Your passports decide the rest. Bhutan charges Indian guests ₹1,200 a night and most other passports US$100 a night, plus a US$40 visa, and a licensed guide stays with you throughout. Foreign and OCI guests need Sikkim's permit, filed online through e-FRRO about 30 days before reaching the state, for the Gangtok nights of A Himalayan Honeymoon and the Pelling nights of Tea and Snow; One Estate, Seven Days needs none. If you have just married, book every flight in the names printed on the IDs you will carry, and bring the marriage certificate if a surname has changed.

A Lhab Sang for new beginnings in Zhiwaling's own temple, a hot stone bath for two on the evening you come down from the Tiger's Nest, a picnic laid on a Punakha riverbank, and a fireside massage and private dinner in the Woodshed at Gangtey Lodge.

A note on late October
October and November for two
Mid October to November is the clearest stretch of the year and the warmest of the clear months: Glenburn's days run about 21 to 26 °C. It is also the hills' festival season. In 2026 Dashain's Tika day falls on 21 October and Tihar runs from 7 to 11 November, while Durga Puja and Diwali bring visitors up from the plains to the same few towns.
That matters for couples, because the rooms worth having are few. Glenburn has eight suites, and the MAYFAIR in Kalimpong, the old Himalayan Hotel, keeps fireplaces in the seven Heritage Rooms of its original house. In Bhutan the lodges hold their peak rates from mid September to the end of November, and from November the black-necked cranes are back in Phobjikha. For an anniversary in late October, write as early as you can: a designer replies within 24 hours with what is open.

Four questions about honeymoons
Is December too cold for a Darjeeling honeymoon?
Not if the houses are chosen well. In December Darjeeling's nights are about 3 to 4 °C and its days about 14 °C, but it is the driest month and the mountain shows on most mornings. Glenburn says its winter nights stay at 7 °C or above, while Pelling's fall to between 1 and 3 °C, which is why Tea and Snow pairs them with fires, electric blankets and deep baths. A Bhutan Honeymoon is kinder in autumn or spring: Phobjikha, its highest and coldest valley, freezes from November.
A Himalayan Honeymoon or A Bhutan Honeymoon?
Both are private weeks for two that move between houses. Choose the Himalayan one for a working tea estate, a fire laid in a heritage room at Kalimpong, a spa in the forest at Pangthang and no daily fee. Choose Bhutan for dzongs, a pool villa beside the Mo Chhu and two nights in the Phobjikha valley, accepting the Tiger's Nest climb, one six-hour road day and a licensed guide throughout. With its lodges and the daily fee, the Bhutan week costs nearly three times as much per person.
Can we avoid early starts?
Almost entirely. A Himalayan Honeymoon's only dawn is watched from the four-poster at Glenburn, and you may sleep through it. On A Bhutan Honeymoon you choose whether the Tiger's Nest starts at 07:10 or at 08:30, though the Delhi flight home in autumn means leaving at 07:45. Tea and Snow sets one alarm, at 05:50 on the last morning. One Estate, Seven Days asks nothing of you before breakfast. Only Stillness at Dhulikhel keeps a fixed early hour: Swayambhu's stair at first light, on the day you fly.
Can we make one of these journeys longer?
Yes, and each has its own listed add-on rather than a vague extension. A Bhutan Honeymoon can begin with two nights at Taj Chia Kutir in the Makaibari tea, 70 minutes from Bagdogra, before the Tuesday or Saturday flight to Paro; from November to mid February it can add a third Gangtey night for the black-necked cranes. Stillness at Dhulikhel runs on into the Sanctuary's six-night yoga therapy. One Estate, Seven Days adds the hard river day down the Rung Dung, mid November to May.
